Aran HP washing Guide

Why HP Wash?

Arans are melee characters, meaning they take quite alot of damage, generally from touch damage, and many high level bosses deal high, life-threatening touch damage which makes HP washing very much needed. Just taking zakum for example, the final touch damage of the last body is roughly 9.5k damage. An average aran without washing will only have around 9.7k hp by lv200. Of course, you have nice defensive skills like high defense, and combo barrier but it still requires you to be really high level till you can survive one hit. HP washing can open up new ways to taking down certain bosses. An aran can essentially hug zak with enough hp and avoid seal / stun as he is constantly taking touch damage. This allows the arans to deal more damage / sec than they already do and become an even better bossing char. It also ensures the aran keeps his combo up (biggest problem of an aran) as even if you were to get stunned, your body pressure would be keeping your combo up.

How to HP wash?

The most basic way of hp washing is to:

1. Level up
2. Add 1-5 AP to HP
3. Buy the required amount of ap resets needed
4. Use the Ap Reset: -MP, +STR

Summary: The end result is that you have gained 1 ap worth of hp, and also 1 ap on str, by sacrificing 4mp per wash.

For every AP you add to HP, you will gain 30-34 hp.
Every wash will always take only 4 MP away when lowering MP.

Minimum MP formula

Since HP washing lowers your mp with every wash, you cannot wash an infinite amount of times. Your MP cannot go below a certain limit. If your MP reaches this limit, you will be unable to wash anymore till you have more MP.

Aran Min MP formula:

Now, every site I’ve been to hasn’t really got a “confirmed” formula for arans, but I have managed to confirm a “safe” formula: min mp: Lvx4 + 105

If you have more than that amount of MP, I am 100% sure you can still wash. (The true formula is probably lvx4+55, but I can’t confirm it)

Proof: http://nl.tinypic.com/r/2wr20d3/6

In this screenshot, this aran is level 145 and has 685 MP only.

lvlx4 = 580
685 – 580 = 105
That is how I came up with the Min MP is at most, lvx4+105.

What does the formula mean?

Well I will give you an example to show you how the formula works.

Say an aran was lv100, and has 1000mp

Sub the lv into the formula:
(100)x4 + 105 = 505

Therefore, his minimum mp he can have is 505.

He has 1000mp, meaning he has (1000-505) 495 extra mp.

1 wash is 4mp, so 495/4 = 123.75 (round down to 123)

therefore the aran lv100, with 1000 mp can wash 123 times.

NOTE: Remember to calculate with your BASE mp. Any MP bonuses given from equips (spegielmann pendant for example) will not count for washing. The minimum MP formula is based on your BASE mp so take off any equips that add MP while doing this calculation.

How can I get more MP to wash more times?

Since every wash = 4mp, you will want to have as much MP as possible. Every time you level up, you get more MP.

The MP gained per level is based on:

MP gained= (4~8) + (total int/10) ; where (total int/10) is rounded DOWN.

This basically means that for every 10 int you have, you get 1 more MP per level up and that everytime you level, you will also gain between 4-8mp as an aran. Since you gain more mp with more int, it is best to level up with INT GEAR from as LOW LVL as possible.

If you had 100 int from lv10 ( I know its kind of impossible, just example) you are gaining 10 mp every lvl up…

By lv 100, thats 900 more mp. Imagine you didn’t wear int gear till you were lv100. That’s 900mp you are down on, so I cannot stress more, but wear int gear from as LOW lvl as POSSIBLE.

Example:

Aran has 69 int
he gains 4-8 mp from leveling up
and also 6 mp more from int gear (rounds down, always)
therefore he will gain between (4+6)mp and (8+6)mp
so he will gain between 10~14 mp per level.

Working out average HP

I don’t know about you, but I love maths, and I love to find out how much HP I would end up with at certain levels if I had xx int. Sorry if my explanation is hard to follow as I’m not too good at explaining =p
The way to work it out is to find out how many washes you can do till that level, and then simply add it to your current HP.

Useful numbers/formulae:

Average hp gained per level up – 44~48 (46)
average hp per AP/ wash – 30~34 (32)
mp gained per lvl: 4~8; (6) + (total int/10)

Example:

level 100 aran has 4500 HP, 1000 MP and levels up with 69 int every level. How much HP will I have by lv 169?

step1: work out how much MP he would have at lv169.
MP per lvl = 6+6 (6 from lvl up, 6 from int gear) = 12
169-100 = 69 levels to go
69×12 = 828, +1000 MP he currently has = 1828 mp at lv169.

step2: work out how many washes that is

Min mp formula lvx4+105
169×4 + 105 = 781 minimum mp
1828 – 781 = 1047MP spare for washing
1047 / 4 (since 4 mp per wash) = 261 (rounded DOWN)

So the aran at lv169, would have 1828 mp, and is able to wash 261 times.

Step 3: work out how much HP that is in total

lvl 100 – lv169 is 69 level ups
average hp gain per lvl = 46
46 x 69 = 3174 HP

ADD that hp with the amount of hp from WASHING:

washing hp – 261 (washes) x 32 (avg hp per wash) = 8352 HP

3174 + 8352 = 11526 HP gained, within the 69 levels

Step5: add that to his current hp

In the example, the lv100 aran had 4500 hp

so: 4500 + 11526 = 16026 HP at lv169.

Useful HP targets

So we know how to HP wash now but how much HP do we actually need?

NOTE: these numbers are the damage BEFORE high defense and combo barrier is taken into consideration.

anego touch: 11k~
anego slap: 18k~
zak 3rd body 9.5k~
HT legs 15k~
HT Tail 27k~
Big foot – (not sure, sorry)
Pink bean 25.5k touch~
also note that 18750 hp = 30k when HB’ed
and also note 21429 hp = 30k hp with Hyper body from potentials (HB from potential gear is only +40% hp and mp)

It really depends on what you are planning to do with your aran to decide what HP you want.

note about combo drain

I just wanted to add a little note about combo drain too. It’s such a wonderful skill when you combine it with a High HP aran. I’m sure you loved to grind with 0 pots in the lower levels, but when you get to leafre, you might be finding combo drain to be a bit useless, as you die so easily at skeles.
Generally, if you can survive say… 5 hits off skeles you will be able to grind without HP pots, due to combo drain.

But there is 1 limitation of combo drain which is not in the description. It is somewhat similar to the limitation of the skill: drain, for nightlords.

combo drain: Heals 5% of damage as HP, cannot heal more than enemie’s max HP.

This is all the description says.

basically, if you deal 100 damage, 5 hp will be healed.

Also if you hit a green snail, since a green snail has only 8 hp, you cannot heal more than 8 hp per attack.
however, there is 1 more limitation:

Cannot heal more than 10% of MAX HP with an attack

They do not tell you this, in the description. What this means is, if you have 1000 HP, you will never heal more than 100 hp in 1 hit.(since 10% of 1000 is 100)

It also only counts for our BASE hp. If your hp is 18750, with hb = 30k. The healing power is still 1875 hp per hit, not 3000 hp.

Even HP bonuses from equips does not count. It is purely based on 10% of your maximum BASE hp.
This reduces the capabilities of the skill combo drain by alot. Since arans generally only have 9.7k at lv200 (without wash) they can only heal 970 hp per hit. They will be unable to hug any bosses that deal high touch damage, as the healing is not high enough to cancel the touch damage.

Worse news is, even though overswing makes double swing / triple swing hit twice, it only counts as 1 attack.

Making 1 Overswing only heal 30% at the MOST.

Hitting more than 1 mob doesn’t change this either. Whether you hit 1 or 12 mobs, it still only allows a maximum healing of 30%.

So if you wanted to hug zakum’s 3rd body, which deals 6.5k damage per touch (with High defense and combo barrier both maxed) You would need roughly 19k hp in order for combo drain to heal fast enough to cancel the 6.5k damage every 1.5 seconds.

Of course you might say “I can just pot” and I agree with you. I just wanted to point this limitation on combo drain for anyone who was wondering “I’m hitting ova 9000 damage, why do I only heal 69 hp?”
Also I like to bring the best out of a char I can. Being able to hug zak without potting IS better than potting… as you can have pot lag.

End notes

Currently my aran has about 21k hp. I can grind on skeles with 0 hp pots, hug 3rd body zak with 0 pots. I will also have 30k hp all the time, once potentials come out. It took 375 hp washes to get to this mark at lv190. I believe you shouldn’t need more than 21429 hp base… but it’s your choice. Gogo 30k base hp xDD

Thanks for reading my guide, anything you don’t understand, you can leave a comment and I’ll try to answer you as soon as possible. Alternatively you can also choose to whisper me in-game, ign PøleDancer, but if I’m grinding I might reply something like “whisp me later pls, grinding atm.” so, sorry if that happens =P
Thanks for reading, hope you liked the guide, Happy Mapling! <3
