I was bored so I decided to do some calculations about whether spamming overswing was more damage, or overswing + final blow. Assuming you use a PSB, you can roughly perform 45 overswings per minute, or 32 overswings with final blows.
Spam Overswing (No SE)
45 atk / min
base dmg: 100% + 170% + 170% + 240% + 240%
100 combo - 70% crit rate, 200% dmg (200*0.7) = 140%; 140% + 140% + 140% + 140% + 140%
total damage - 240% + 310% + 310% + 380% + 380%; total 1620%
1620% x 45 = 72900% per min
Overswing + Final Blow (No SE)
32 atk /min
base damage: 100% + 170% + 170% + 240% + 240% + 700%
crit dmg 70% chance, 200% dmg = 140% avg; 140% + 140% + 140% + 140% + 140% + 140%
total dmg: 240% + 310% + 310% + 380% + 380% + 840%; total 2460%
2460% x 32 = 78720% more than spamming overswing by 5820% more.
Spam Overswing (With SE)
45 atk /min
base damage: 100% + 170% + 170% + 240% + 240%
100 combo, 85% chance, 340% dmg (340*0.85) = 289%; 289% + 289% + 289% + 289% + 289%
total dmg: 389% + 459% + 459% + 529% + 529%; total 2365%
2365% x 45 = 106425% dmg per min
Overswing + Final Blow (With SE)
32 atk /min
Base dmg: 100% + 170% + 170% + 240% + 240% + 700%
100 combo, 85% crit, 340% dmg, 289% + 289% + 289% + 289% + 289% + 289%
total dmg: 389% + 459% + 459% + 529% + 529% + 989%; total 3354%
3354% x 32 = 107328% damage per min MORE than spamming overswing by 903% dmg
Summary
Overswing + Final blow > spamming Overswing in both cases, however, spamming overswing is much faster at geting combos, as you do more hits/min. Because of this reason, I would advise spamming overswing to 100 combo before you start final blowing.
However, since spamming overswing produces more hits/min, this also means you lose more damage through weapon defense, another disadvantage to spamming overswing.
From the comparison of no SE and with SE, you can see that spamming overswing is getting closer, with higher crit rate, therefore if we get adventurer rings, and increase it to 95% chance of crit, spamming overswing will be better than Final blow.
